Cherdron Homepage

This page is intended to be a place for researchers interested in all families having one of the following names: Chardron, Cherdron, Chaudron, Chardon, Shedron, Shetron, Shetrone, etc.

The family appears to have originated in the vicinity of Sedan, Ardennes, France. The most common spelling in this region is Chardron. Some members of this family emigrated to the Netherlands, where the name is most commonly spelled Chaudron. One individual, Daniel, emigrated from Sedan to Otterberg, Pfalz, Germany where the name is commonly spelled Cherdron. Most, if not all, members of the Cherdron family in Germany are descended from Daniel. Some of Daniels descendants emigrated to America. Descendants of those that emigrated in the 1700's now spell their surname Shedron, Shetron, and Shetrone. Those that emigrated in the 1900's retained the Cherdron spelling. The spellings listed above are only the most common spellings. Hundreds of spelling variations have been discovered.

The Cherdron Family of Otterberg and the Shetrone Family of America is now available! Last published in 1992, the current 1995 edition contains 640 pages, over 4,000 people, 92 illustrations, 8,756 source references, and 3 indexes (person, marriage, and place)! It is available for $50.00, the cost of duplication and postage.
